The new T5 tubes

The new T5, what it is about?

THE T5 LAMP
The new fluorescent lamp T5 as described by the IEC is a double capped fluorescent lamp of tubular form and linear shape. They are made in the lengths of 55, 85 and 145 cm (22 ", 32", and 57" ) with a diameter of 16mm. Electrically, the T5 is a high frequency starter less lamp, with maximum light-emission at 35ºC .
Amongst the great number of fluorescent lamps with different forms and shapes, only very few have the qualities that are required in (cine) photography. The existing industrial T5 tubes are made with a Tri-phosphor band, which is deficient in several regions of the color spectrum, unable to produce a clean white light (see picture above).

SOFTLIGHTS OWN T5
When we started the testing of our first fluorescent T5 lamp in 1996, we aimed towards a fluorescent source as powerful as our "U"-bend models, but with perfect color balance and color temperature. As white light is the only way to produce color, and in particular flesh-tones, we decided to build our own lamps. The Softlights T5 lamps give a Continuous Radiance (from deep blue >400nM to very far red >750nM) especially fitted for color photography and color reproduction. You do not need correction-gels on Softlights T5, because the tubes does not require any correction. There is no green-cast predominant in our fluorescent lamps, and they match perfectly together with natural daylight, H.M.I and incandescent light-sources.

THE T5 IS THE SMALLEST, BUT STILL THE MOST POWERFUL TUBE. A COMPARISON BETWEEN T12, T8 AND T5. They all represent the SAME AMOUNT OF LIGHT-OUTPUT!!
